LEEE JOHN IMAGINATION

IMAGINATION - LEEE JOHN

IMAGINATION is a British funk-disco and post-disco group formed in 1980 in London, England by LEEE JOHN (vocals, born JOHN LESLEY McGREGOR on 23/06/1962 in Hackney, London), ASHLEY INGRAM (vocals/guitar/bass/keys/percussion, born on 27/11/1960 in Nottingham) and ERROL KENNEDY (drums, born on 09/06/1953 in Montego Bay, Jamaica) replaced in the late 80s by PETER ROYER (drums, born on 20/09/1963 in London).

Initially backing singers for the VELVELETTES during a tour in Great Britain, LEEE and ASHLEY used their vocal cords behind CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD, THE ELGINS and THE DELFONICS. It is the team of producers STEVE JOLLEY and TONY SWAIN who spotted the group. The name IMAGINATION was chosen in reference to the title "IMAGINE" by JOHN LENNON.

The highlight of their career will remain "JUST AN ILLUSION" (No. 1 in Italy, No. 2 in Great Britain in March 1982 and in Switzerland, No. 3 in Sweden and South Africa, No. 5 in Norway, No. 6 in Austria, No. 7 in Germany, No. 8 in Ireland, No. 9 in Belgium and No. 12 in the Netherlands).

Separation of IMAGINATION in 1995. LEEE will do solo work and will sing in duet with JANE FOSTIN. In 2006, ERROL returned to live in Jamaica.
